About IPD-OUM’s School of Lifelong Learning

The School of Lifelong Learning (SOLL) was formed to provide adults of all age groups with the opportunity to improve their career prospects in job areas that are particularly non-academic, and which are dedicated to a specific vocation, trade or occupation.

Recognising that working adults may for some time be stuck in a dead-end trade or occupation; or are at the cross-roads of their career, SOLL offers an avenue through which these individuals can acquire vocational skills and certificates that will give them a value-added edge in terms of advancing their job scope as well as career prospects. These highly interactive programmes also provide the opportunity for candidates to become skilled entrepreneurs in their field of interest.

Aspiring candidates have through SOLL, the opportunity to gain vocational training and certification in photography, pet grooming, wiring, electrical equipment maintenance, the culinary arts, cosmetology, etc. The range of vocational areas of study is subject to consistent review and expanded as demand for special areas of interest arise from the industry and market.

As an exception to the norm, SOLL is mindful of the living and operating context of individuals who need to advance their vocational skills. Therefore, the range of non-credit courses offered is affordable, fun, fast and convenient. They are also geared to a potential candidate’s learning and career goals with real hands-on knowledge and skills imparted for completion within 4 to 12 months.

Since our programmes are self-paced, it has been our policy to work with candidates until they are able to complete them. Flexibility comes into play in the event candidates need more time for completion. For those who are not able to continue with their training, arrangements will be made for the individual to take time-off and complete the programme at a later period.

SOLL draws experienced instructors from both the university and the industry for vocational programme delivery. These instructors offer the kind of hands-on training that will ensure that candidates will acquire the skills quickly.
